The Kids Are All Wrong

(hattip Amicus Blogus Josh)

Time Magazine has a list of "Nine Kids food to Avoid." On the list at Number 8 - Sunny D!

Wow, Sunny D is really bad for you, says Time:
Sunny D may contain a full day's supply of vitamin C, as its bottle says, but the tangy orange drink is drowning in sugar — 27 g per glass.
Someone should have told these kids:

After all this time, they should have chose purple stuff.

  1. I never saw this ad, only the original (the "two kinds" makes it clear this is a follow-up).

This begs the question: why did Mom still stock the fridge with OJ, soda, and purple stuff? I mean, I suppose it's possible there are other unseen members of the family that might be enjoying those other drinks (Mom included), but no doubt she saw them all leave for the beach, she knows what they want when they get back, leaving just two small containers of Sunny D in the fridge is just neglectful.

  2. Also- it's a strange frugality here. Mom has clearly bought generic brand coke (in both bottle and can form), generic orange juice, homemade purple "stuff," and brand name Sunny D. It's not absurd, it's just a strange allocation of funds.

  3. Also - there is milk in that fridge, totally ignored. Not even a bad choice; a non-choice.

  4. Interestingly, this is the full text from that Time snippet -
Sunny D may contain a full day's supply of vitamin C, as its bottle says, but the tangy orange drink is drowning in sugar — 27 g per glass.
Better choice: Milk. Skip Sunny D and pour your kid a glass of skim milk. It's full of calcium and essential vitamins without the sugar.

Did they have this specific commercial in mind when referencing milk? I'd like to think so.
